Punchestown 26th April

We have three runners in the Mares Listed Novice Hurdle over 2 miles. Things didn’t go right for Dinoblue (Mark Walsh) in Fairyhouse last time so we will try different tactics today. The drop in trip and class here should be a big help. Grangee (Paul) was also disappointing in Fairyhouse but she too will benefit from this drop in class. Instit (Danny) disappointed us in Limerick but it would be great if she could get some listed black type here.

We run two in the Grade 1 Champion Novice Hurdle over 2 miles. Sir Gerhard (Paul) won the Ballymore at Cheltenham and we are dropping him back in trip today to see if he has the type of speed we need. We hope he has the class to see off these rivals. Dysart Dynamo (Patrick) was going well enough when he fell three out in the Supreme and looks the one who could put it up t Sir Gerhard here.

We have four in the 2 mile handicap hurdle. Farout (Paul) ran too free last time and Paul thinks a change of tactics today will make a big difference. Daryl Jacob comes over to ride Tax For Max who has been disappointing. He possibly needs to be ridden differently and we will try that today. Running over 3 miles last time didn’t work out for Tempo Chapter Two (Danny). He could go well over this shorter trip with his nice weight. Hybery (Sean O’Keeffe) has been disappointing all along and we are just hoping he can run into some form here.

We have two runners in the 2 mile Grade 1 Champion Chase. This looks like a nice opportunity for Energumene (Paul) who won the Champion Chase at Cheltenham. We would have preferred more rain but there should be still enough juice in the ground for him. Chacun Pour Soi (Patrick) is the highest rated here and loves this track. He has to put two runs where he jumped poorly behind him and if he does he will have every chance around here.

We also have two in the Goffs Land Rover Bumper. Rocco Bay (Patrick) has a good Aga Khan pedigree and is a nice summer bumper type who has just come into form at home. Elle Klassycco (Jody Townend) is a sharp type who will benefit from her mares allowance and Jody’s 5lb claim.

Capodanno (Mark Walsh) goes for the Grade 1 Champion Novice Chase over 3 miles. He was disappointing in the Brown Advisory at Cheltenham but we think he is capable of a lot better. He has 8lbs to find with Bob Olinger on official ratings but we think he could give the favourite a run for his money over this trip.

Good Bye Sam (Patrick) runs in the Cross Country Chase over 3m 1f. He is improving and has schooled well over cross country fences. He has a decent each-way chance here.

We have two newcomers in the 4YO Bumper. Lisnagar Fortune (Patrick) is a half-brother to Lisnagar Oscar who won the 3 mile hurdle at Cheltenham. He is a nice type who will go on the ground. Vadsa Queen (Jody Townend) is a real summer bumper mare who could be involved at the business end.
