We have two of the four runners in the 2 mile novice chase. Blackbow (David) needs this experience after falling early on at Leopardstown over Christmas. These fences will suit him better. Energumene (Paul) was impressive when winning a beginners chase at Gowran over 2m 4f in November. He drops back four furlongs here but his method of jumping suggests he should be very competitive over this trip. We are hoping he will be good enough again today.
Blue Lord (Paul) goes for the Lawlors of Naas Grade 1 Novice Hurdle over 2m 4f. He won a 2 mile maiden at Punchestown in November and we don’t think this longer trip will be any trouble to him. He is up against some good horses here but we have to find out where he sits so we are letting him take his chance.
Captain Kangaroo (Paul) runs in the 2 mile maiden hurdle. He was disappointing when third at Punchestown last month and needs more experience over hurdles. Hopefully he might improve enough to get into the shake-up.
Belle Metal (Jody Townend) makes her debut in the 4yo bumper. She is fit and well and will stay the trip. We are hoping for a nice run but it is hard to be confident against some well-bred unexposed types.
