Gowran Park 28th January

Gelee Blanche (Jody Townend) goes for the ladies maiden hurdle over 2m 4f. She was third in Down Royal last time and is improving all the time. However, she won’t be suited by this testing ground.

Princess Vega (Conor McNamara) runs in the 2m 4f Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle. She has a very tough task with 12 stone in her first handicap and on only her second race ever over hurdles.

We run four in the Galmoy Hurdle over 3 miles. Bacardys (Brian Hayes) was disappointing at Leopardstown at Christmas but will like this trip and ground. We are trying him with a tongue tie today to see if that will make a difference. Burrows Saint (Rachael Blackmore) ran too free at Clonmel last time but a first-time hood here might help him settle. He will like these conditions. Scarpeta (Danny) is suited by the race conditions but needs to recapture his old form. He will handle this ground. Great White Shark (Paul) won the Cesarewitch at Newmarket last October and is well suited by these race conditions. Things will happen slower for her on this ground which will help. She will like the ground and trip and must have a major chance.

We have five runners in the Thyestes Handicap Chase over 3m 1f. Acapella Bourgeois (Paul) was sixth in this last year and ran a cracker last time at Tramore behind Al Boum Photo. It will be tough for him here with top weight but we are expecting a very good run. Brahma Bull (Brian Hayes) was unlucky when unseating in Al Boum Photo’s race at Tramore and will like this ground and trip. Cabaret Queen (Conor McNamara) was third at Fairyhouse last time but needs to improve on that run if she is to win today. Class Conti (Mikey Fogarty) was second in this race last year and will handle the ground and the trip. He has a chance if coming back to his best. Saturnas (Danny) hasn’t returned to his best form yet and is probably best watched until he does.

Antey (Paul) runs in the 2 mile beginners chase. He was going well when unseating two out at Fairyhouse earlier this month. He deserves a better turn of luck and if Paul can keep his jumping together he will go very close.

Hara Kiri (Patrick) makes his debut in the bumper. He does things right at home and if he handles this testing ground he should be a big player here.
